Favorite *Animated* movies—from a Beach Artist

Untitled-1

So my impending trip to Disney World next week has got me feeling super excited and creative! Let’s just say that I have been going on a little Disney kick lately.

I recently watched a YouTube video where somebody counted down their favorite 55 Disney animated films. They played snippets from each film as they were numbered off. The video awakened a stream of inspiration within me to create my own list. However, my list is my top 30 animated movies, and it isn’t just Disney. It is all of the studios!

There is no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be an artist and have my own art business if it weren’t for animated cinema. After all, I like animation more than live action Hollywood films any day of the week. I have a FIERCE and joyous love of animated movies. When I made my list I was surprised by some of the newest Pixar and Disney computer animated films that took some of the tops spots, especially since I’ve always been a sucker for hand-drawn traditional animation. I am a painter at the end of the day and love to use my hands! 🙂

Some of these movies haven’t even budged since I was a young boy, which was pretty cool to see. So without further ado, let’s get right down to my favorite animated movies!

“Show Offs”

So I showed my new painting “Show Offs” to my friend Chris, and he told me that it is the best animal featured painting I have ever done. It is always good to get an outside opinion, whether it is someone you know or a complete stranger.

I’m thoroughly enjoying painting these large grandiose animal scenes! They are just so much fun, though they are big undertakings with a palette knife.

“Show Offs” is very similar to “Dolphin Bliss,” a painting that inspired it. The only difference is in the new painting there are orcas breaching out of the water. The colors and theme are pretty close.

Here you can see the similarities in theme, color, and composition. But “Show Offs” really is much more dramatic, in my opinion. These are my largest oil paintings of my career so far and am looking forward to going much bigger. I would like to eventually get up to 48×60 inches, which is a HUGE canvas, especially for a dinky palette knife! 🙂

Don’t forget to check out my newest marine life speed painting video of a starfish glowing in the sunset! You can watch it below. And don’t forget to subscribe.

Also, be sure to browse my available painting in my exclusive Etsy shop! Sales are really starting to grow which is really nice. It seems like yesterday when I only had two!

The Proof is in the Pudding! Always :)

If you want to find out everything you need to know about a person, all you have to do is watch what they do. Their actions will tell you all of the important info. Why? Because the proof is in the pudding. Always has been, always will be.

I have a little brother Troy who is always talking about how he wants to be a success, make a difference in the lives of others, and feel better about himself. But then when you ask him who is role model is, he will announce emphatically, “Eminem.” Now I’m not knocking Eminem, but any smart and reasonable person would conclude that that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Now if Troy said “Oprah, or Will Smith, or Tony Robbins,” well, that would be a much different story. We would say “Ah hah, I understand! Best of luck to you!”

Magic in the AirNew painting, entitled “Magic in the Air.” Oils on canvas 18×24 inches

Let’s say you have a close friend and she tells you that she wants to lose weight and feel great about herself. How can you tell if she is serious? And the answer is, take her out to lunch. If she orders a plate of cheese sticks, some ribs and a couple of pepsis, you will know for sure. But if she orders a turkey club sandwich with tomatoes and pickles, a small chef salad with fat-free dressing, and a TALL glass of ice water, you would then say “let me know is there is anything I can do to help!” You would know she is serious about her aspirations.

Take me, for instance. My dream is to be a world-famous artist and to be the premier beach painter in the country. And if somebody followed me into my studio they would see that my actions correspond to that particular vision. They would see me paint 5-10 originals a week, make one video a week for Youtube, blog, market, and network myself, and work hard on my Etsy shop to get my work sold around the country.

That same person would exclaim, “Okay! This guy is serious.”

So my question is…how serious are you about what you want in your life? And most importantly, do your actions dictate your wants? Remember, to get the answers you want, just look inside of the pudding. They will be there every single time!

Bring on the Moon

I’ve been working on a night series of beach paintings and it has been going very well. These are the first moonlit scenes that I have done! I love adding in the moon as the central focus and make it light up the entire scene. These paintings are very whimsical, mystical, and dramatic.

The best news is I think I’ve awakened something inside of me. I’ll be doing MANY more evening beaches in the future! After all, I am a creature of the night. Evening is my favorite time of day.

So it makes sense to bring the evening into my beach scenes, doesn’t it?!

A Canine in the Studio!

So a couple of months I adopted a toy Chihuahua from the Michigan Humane Society. She was in need of a home, and I happened to have a home to provide. So it really was the perfect match.

She is only 5 pounds, so needless to say she is a little furry gumdrop. She is such a little weirdo but grows on you pretty fast. I named her Star because there is something special about her and she is filled with radiant energy.

20170503_182645

Little Star doesn’t like to be in my art studio, so when I am working she will just squeak away incessantly to let her case be known. Or she’ll try to jump up in my lap when I am sitting on my stool at my easel, which of course doesn’t work well.

One time she even tried to jump onto my palette with my paint on it!

It has been an adventure so far having a dog again. Before her I hadn’t had a canine in the studio for seven years.

I have a new video on Youtube that I’m pretty excited about. Check it out when you get the time. It even has NEW background music! Heck yeah, man. You can view the actual painting on my Etsy shop below.

I’m also happy to report that I received 2 sales yesterday on my Etsy shop and have been getting wonderful traffic and interest! So that is very exciting. I know I’m on the right road, I just have to keep on growing my audience and getting more known.

But I shall get there…one sale, video, and blog post at a time!

Greener Scenery!

So my brand new studio is complete. The move went rather smoothly, if I must say. I’m so happy to now have a studio that I’m proud to be in. A place that is an extension of myself and my interests.

Before I reveal the new pictures, here is a picture of my old artistic station.

Yikes! Pretty bland, huh? I won’t beat myself up though, as life is about getting better, right? That is the basis for personal development—GROWTH! That is what I preach in my youtube videos and I like to practice what I preach.

Hence why I chose to finally make my dream studio a reality.

Well, here is the my lovely new studio! Drumroll please……

New Studio 3

New Studio 4

Now THIS is what I’m talking about!

As you can see I decorated my new habitat with a beach theme throughout, which really inspires me to paint the beach even more. I also have some personal development quotes on the wall, as well as some Disney decor. After all, I am a HUGE fan of Disney’s animation studio.

I am really loving my new beachy art studio! If you haven’t watched my interview video on youtube, here you go.

I’m also working to expand my contact list for my monthly newsletter. You can sign up on my website at

Some of the benefits of signing up include special discounts, reminders about new work and videos, and also words of encouragement and inspiration straight to your inbox!

Studio Switch!

So I recently made a switch in my home. My new studio is now located in my friend’s old room, and my new bedroom is where my old dinky studio used to be. I am really enjoying putting together my brand new art studio! It is so much more inspiring! Not only is it TWICE as big but it also has it’s own private bathroom. How could you go wrong with that? I am in the process of decorating it with a beach theme/personal development theme.

So in addition to the beach decor, I will also be putting a bunch of encouraging words, quotes, and self-development insights all over the walls, which will be a great pick-me-up whenever I’m feeling defeated or discouraged.

http://www.ryankimbaart.com

I’ll be sure to post a picture of my new studio on my blog as soon as it is finished.

Here are a few new paintings to share with you. I haven’t shared new paintings in a while and I figured I’d get back to my roots. For more information on these paintings, visit my online shop on Etsy:   http://www.etsy.com/shop/RKBeachPaintings
