Bring on the Moon

I’ve been working on a night series of beach paintings and it has been going very well. These are the first moonlit scenes that I have done! I love adding in the moon as the central focus and make it light up the entire scene. These paintings are very whimsical, mystical, and dramatic.

The best news is I think I’ve awakened something inside of me. I’ll be doing MANY more evening beaches in the future! After all, I am a creature of the night. Evening is my favorite time of day.

So it makes sense to bring the evening into my beach scenes, doesn’t it?!

A Canine in the Studio!

So a couple of months I adopted a toy Chihuahua from the Michigan Humane Society. She was in need of a home, and I happened to have a home to provide. So it really was the perfect match.

She is only 5 pounds, so needless to say she is a little furry gumdrop. She is such a little weirdo but grows on you pretty fast. I named her Star because there is something special about her and she is filled with radiant energy.

Little Star doesn’t like to be in my art studio, so when I am working she will just squeak away incessantly to let her case be known. Or she’ll try to jump up in my lap when I am sitting on my stool at my easel, which of course doesn’t work well.

One time she even tried to jump onto my palette with my paint on it!

It has been an adventure so far having a dog again. Before her I hadn’t had a canine in the studio for seven years.

I have a new video on Youtube that I’m pretty excited about. Check it out when you get the time. It even has NEW background music! Heck yeah, man. You can view the actual painting on my Etsy shop below.

I’m also happy to report that I received 2 sales yesterday on my Etsy shop and have been getting wonderful traffic and interest! So that is very exciting. I know I’m on the right road, I just have to keep on growing my audience and getting more known.

But I shall get there…one sale, video, and blog post at a time!

Greener Scenery!

So my brand new studio is complete. The move went rather smoothly, if I must say. I’m so happy to now have a studio that I’m proud to be in. A place that is an extension of myself and my interests.

Before I reveal the new pictures, here is a picture of my old artistic station.

Yikes! Pretty bland, huh? I won’t beat myself up though, as life is about getting better, right? That is the basis for personal development—GROWTH! That is what I preach in my youtube videos and I like to practice what I preach.

Hence why I chose to finally make my dream studio a reality.

Well, here is the my lovely new studio! Drumroll please……

New Studio 3

New Studio 4

Now THIS is what I’m talking about!

As you can see I decorated my new habitat with a beach theme throughout, which really inspires me to paint the beach even more. I also have some personal development quotes on the wall, as well as some Disney decor. After all, I am a HUGE fan of Disney’s animation studio.

I am really loving my new beachy art studio! If you haven’t watched my interview video on youtube, here you go.

I’m also working to expand my contact list for my monthly newsletter. You can sign up on my website at

Some of the benefits of signing up include special discounts, reminders about new work and videos, and also words of encouragement and inspiration straight to your inbox!

Studio Switch!

So I recently made a switch in my home. My new studio is now located in my friend’s old room, and my new bedroom is where my old dinky studio used to be. I am really enjoying putting together my brand new art studio! It is so much more inspiring! Not only is it TWICE as big but it also has it’s own private bathroom. How could you go wrong with that? I am in the process of decorating it with a beach theme/personal development theme.

So in addition to the beach decor, I will also be putting a bunch of encouraging words, quotes, and self-development insights all over the walls, which will be a great pick-me-up whenever I’m feeling defeated or discouraged.

I’ll be sure to post a picture of my new studio on my blog as soon as it is finished.

Here are a few new paintings to share with you. I haven’t shared new paintings in a while and I figured I’d get back to my roots. For more information on these paintings, visit my online shop on Etsy:   http://www.etsy.com/shop/RKBeachPaintings

And don’t forget to watch my new Youtube video. Come get to know me better as my friend asks me some thought-provoking questions about my art, fear, and some lessons that I’ve learned along the way. It is a must see!

So what changes have you made recently? Hope you have had a great week so far, filled with creativity and inspiration.

And until next time,

Color Mixing Video on Youtube

Hey guys! I want to fill you in on my latest video. I was really excited to make it, as it marks my first video in front on the camera. Which was nerve racking, but fun!

In the video I demonstrate how I mix my colors for my beach paintings. I keep it fairly simple, although color theory can get very complex if you haven’t studied it. I use a double primary palette of 2 reds, 2 yellows, and 2 blues along with purple, pink, white and Burnt Sienna.

Here is a complete list of all the colors that I use:

  • Pthalo Blue
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium
  • Cadmium Yellow Light
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Titanium White
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Turquoise Blue
  • Manganese Violet
  • Bright Pink
  • Sap Green
  • Permanent Green Light

I have always been wildly passionate about color. I am constantly looking at colors everywhere I go. I believe this is an important part of being an artist, because as artists, our colors are our friends.

I hope you enjoy it, and until next time,

let’s bring some color into the world!

The Biggest Art “Myth” Ever Told!

In the past artists have been looked down upon in mainstream culture, although this has been changing. More and more artists are taking their talent and skill into the business world than ever before.

So what is this myth, you ask? Well, I’ll be happy to tell you.

Many people believe that artists need to be tortured, conflicted, depressed, or unstable, for lack of a better word. In other words, they need to be rebels to be talented or effective creators. Artists themselves believe this and popular culture continues to propagate this myth in movies, music, and television.

This is the biggest lie in the art world, and I’ve found myself dipping into it from time to time. It just simply isn’t the case. Artists can be happy, well-adjusted, successful, joyful, and respectable. They can also be loving. There is no reason why an artist cannot be successful from a place of emotional well-being.

Take my beaches paintings, for instance. They are born from the peace, serenity, love of nature, and balance that I have within myself. That is why I am able to create these lively, colorful, and vibrant pictures. I want to share my love and wonder of the beach with my viewers. The good in me is carried into my artwork.

What myths do you buy into? What are you holding onto tenaciously that is no longer allowing your life to work? These are the questions all of us should ask ourselves. Just because a group of people believe something, it doesn’t make it true. My advice is to believe in something that brings meaning into your life. Something that is positive and life-affirming.

Leave the garbage by the curb where it belongs!
